The lack of frequent flights from Moscow to Phuket may lead to many Russian tourists trying out a new route this year.

Russians have always enjoyed basking in the tropical sun when temperatures dip in the second half of the year. In fact, they make up the second-largest group of international travelers who visit Phuket every winter. However this year, thanks to the reduced number of flights because of COVID-19 and air travel from Russia being unwelcome in many places after the Ukraine conflict, Russians are having a tough time trying to plan out their next beach vacation.

Right now Russian tourists are flying out to the middle-east and availing onward flights to Thailand as Thai Airways and Singapore Airlines have halted their operations in Moscow. Respite can come from Laos emerging as an unexpected transit destination. Russia’s Ural Airlines is keen to start flights from Vladivostok, Siberia to Vientiane. From there tourists can easily hop on to one of the many flights that operate between Vientiane and Bangkok daily.

Considering that the lack of accessibility and exorbitant ticket prices affects both visitors and tourist destinations, it would be great to see regular flights starting on this proposed route. It might lead to more tourism in Laos as well, which is always a great thing.
